MANILA, Philippines -- After it was initially announced that she will be playing the title role in "Cofradia," it seems young actress Julia Barretto has been given a new series for her teleserye debut. ABS-CBNNews.com learned that Barretto's debut teleserye will now be the original series "Mira Bella."
The news came months after she confirmed that she will be doing "Cofradia," which is based on the Dominador Ad Castillo novel of the same title and the 1953 movie starring Gloria Romero. Another movie based on "Cofradia" was made in 1973 with Gina Alajar. Meanwhile, Barretto is grateful to ABS-CBN for getting her career off to a good start with the top-rating "Wansapanataym" special, which she topbills alongside child actors Zaijian Jaranilla and Xyriel Manabat.
"I'm very thankful to ABS-CBN for giving me this opportunity to be a part of another 'Wansapanataym' special. Aside from being my training ground in acting, it also gives us the chance to teach and impart kiddie TV viewers with good values," said Barretto, who admittedly enjoys working with her two young co-stars.
"I enjoy spending time with them on the set because they are like my younger siblings. They are fun to be with, kind and very professional," she said.
MANILA - A fashion magazine dubbed Julia Barretto and Jasmine Curtis-Smith the "next generation of showbiz and style icons" as the two young actresses appear together on its latest magazine cover, which was released on Monday. Barretto and Curtis-Smith grace the cover of the July 2013 issue of Mega magazine, which had the tagline: "Jasmine and Julia: What the hype is all about."
The two stars, which were styled by Patrick Galang, are seen wearing tailored outfits in black and neutral tones, with each holding a tightrope. Barretto, daughter of former actress Marjorie Barretto and niece of TV stars Claudine and Gretchen Barretto, was recently launched as one of the talents of ABS-CBN's talent management arm, Star Magic.
Mega's July 2013 issue marks Barretto's third appearance on a magazine cover, beating several stars that have been in the industry for years. The young actress is set to star in ABS-CBN's remake of the movie "Cofradia." Curtis-Smith, meanwhile, is the younger sister of Kapamilya star and top product endorser Anne Curtis. She is currently working for another network, and has scored a number of endorsement deals for herself.
