Julia Barretto to headline new Black Sheep film
• posted on Feb 13, 2019

Julia Barretto will be the next Kapamilya star to headline a film from Black Sheep, the studio behind “Exes Baggage” and “Alone/Together.”

Barretto, 21, is the only star so far announced by Black Sheep, which also revealed that Jason Paul Laxamana will helm the project.

“This just in: We have a new Sheepmate on the block!” Black Sheep tweeted on Wednesday, tagging Barretto, and teasing that another cast member will have a separate announcement.

Barretto’s last film project was “I Love You, Hater,” which saw her third big-screen outing with onscreen partner and rumored boyfriend Joshua Garcia.

While fans of the “JoshLia” tandem are speculating that Garcia will co-star with Barretto in the new Black Sheep film, others said they look forward to a fresh casting combination.

Barretto will juggle this yet-titled project with the zombie apocalypse movie by Mikhail Red, “Block Z,” which also stars Garcia.

Laxamana is behind the Black Sheep film “To Love Some Buddy,” starring Maja Salvador and Zanjoe Marudo. Previously, he directed the box-office hits “100 Tula Para Kay Stella” and “The Third Party,” among others.

Julia Barretto studying ballet for new TV series
• posted on June 10, 2016

Young actress Julia Barretto is currently taking up ballet lessons for her new TV project.

In an interview on "Magandang Buhay" on Wednesday, Barretto admitted that ballet is not easy even for someone like her who is very sporty. "Sa ballet mamatay-matay na ako," she said.

Barretto's last TV series was "And I Love You So " with Miles Ocampo.

The still-untitled series supposedly also stars Bea Alonzo, Enchong Dee, Ian Veneracion and Iza Calzada.

Barretto, who turned 19 last March, also shared that she is now planning to build her own house.

"My mom is supportive of it," she said, adding that it was her mother, Marjorie Barretto, who taught her to be responsible and independent.

Julia Barretto on career: I'll have my own time
• posted on May 25, 2016

Julia Barretto maintains that she no longer feels pressured when she gets compared to other young actresses like Kathryn Bernardo and Liza Soberano.

“Hindi na. Actually never, I don’t want to question God’s plans for me. Kanya-kanyang paths, destiny,” she told ABS-CBN News in an interview at the sidelines of the Star Magic Games last Sunday.

“Might as well focus on your path, your dreams, tapos kapag naabot mo, masaya ka. It’s not the same for everyone. It’s very different,” she said. Barretto is optimistic that she will also have her own time -- just like Bernardo and Soberano. “I really don’t want to question God’s timing. Timing lang 'yan. We all have our own time. I’m just waiting for mine. There’s no need to rush. I’m glad that I’m able to learn slowly so that when I get there, I’m ready. I want to be ready,” she said. Barretto’s last project with ABS-CBN was the afternoon series “And I Love You So,” which concluded early this year.

Her next project is another TV series where she will be working with Bea Alonzo, Iza Calzado, Ian Veneracion and Enchong Dee. “Sobrang excited ako kasi it’s a dream to work with the people that I’m gonna be working with next, next month. I’m thankful to ABS for giving me this chance,” she said. “When you enter [showbiz], pangarap mo lang makatrabaho sila tapos ngayon nangyayari na. I’m very thankful,” she said.

Now that her career is in full swing, Barretto said she does not mind not having a love life. “I feel like I’m so young. I don’t want to sound cheesy but then, you’ll get to a point in your life you’ll realize you’re so young and there’s so much time to learn to love yourself more, to know yourself more, to know your worth, your value so that kapag na-meet mo na 'yung man na 'yun, ipapakita mo sa kanya na alam mo yung worth mo kaya kailangan mabigay niya iyon,” she said. When the right time comes, would she prefer to be in a relationship with someone also from showbiz?

Julia Barretto paired with Piolo's son in movie debut
• posted on October 23, 2014

Julia Barretto feels like history is repeating itself now that she is being paired with Inigo Pascual for a movie project.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News’ Jeff Fernando, Barretto said she is amazed that she and Pascual will be working on a movie together 10 years after her aunt, Claudine, and Pascual’s father, Piolo, teamed up for the 2004 Star Cinema film “Milan.”

“I am very excited myself kasi siyempre we know that my tita and the dad of Inigo, they have worked together so parang bumabalik kami sa time. Pero now it’s going to be us together,” she said.

“We haven’t started shooting so hindi ko pa masyado nakikita pero so far, Inigo and I really get along. Magaan ang loob ko sa kanya,” Barretto added.

The teen actress said she and Pascual have already done a number of workshops together and she is happy to have found a new friend in him.

“We are actually really excited because they have been trying to pair us up and finally nangyayari na. This is going to be our first project together. We’ve talked a lot and we’ve done several workshops together already so nakapag-usap na kami ng marami-rami na rin,” she said.

Titled “Para Sa Hopeless Romantic,” Barretto and Pascual will be joining Nadine Lustre and James Reid in the movie adaptation of the book written by Marcelo Santos III.

This will be Barretto’s first movie project, while this will be Pascual’s second film.

“I’m excited kasi ang deal po namin ni papa, after high school pa [ako mag-aartista]. I’m not yet done with high school. I just have to prove that I can juggle both education and career at the same time,” Pascual said.

“I don’t think there’s any pressure. We are going to do our job and we are going to do my best. Magiging maayos kaming magkaibigan para maganda yung mapanood at makita sa screen,” Barretto said.
